EL PASO – Bishop Mark J. Seitz was formally installed as the sixth bishop of the El Paso Catholic Diocese during an installation Mass on July 9 at the Judson F. Williams Civic Center in downtown El Paso.
More than 4,000 were in attendance to witness the ceremony. Concelebrants of the Mass included Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell, Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez, and Bishop Armando X. Ochoa, previously the El Paso diocese’s fifth bishop before his appointment to lead the Fresno Catholic Diocese.
“It is a long journey from Wisconsin to Dallas, and from Dallas to El Paso,” said Bishop Seitz, during his homily to those in attendance. “Yet, by the grace of God I am here. I am here as your new shepherd. My heart is ready.”
