Bishop Farrell’s Christmas Message

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

By Bishop Kevin Farrell

Publisher of the Texas Catholic

What a wonderful time of the year this is, a season filled with thoughts of home and families, warm memories of Christmases past and treasured memories of love and loved ones no longer with us.

It is also a time of healing of restoring friendships of reconciling our differences, recognizing our own shortcomings instead of finding them in others. It is a season of homecoming, physically and spiritually.

In a real sense Christmas is about homecoming. The Father sent Jesus to call us home, to show us how to restore our brokenness and become whole in Him. Reconciliation is about reaching out and not about nursing hurt feelings or festering anger. It is also not about demanding justice, fairness or an apology.

This Christmas let us all celebrate the Father’s call to us to come home to healing, forgiveness and unconditional love by reaching out to others as he has reached out to us. Share God’s gift of reconciliation and healing with others this Christmas.

I pray that the Blessings Jesus be upon you and yours in great abundance this Christmas. Let us pray for our Church and for each other.

“The love of Christ impels us.” (2 Corinthians5:14)
